Duke assures on sports development in CRS

The Chairman of Cross River State Sports Commission Etuekong Orok Otu Duke said that the state government has floated 43 sports competitions and the competition includes traditional and other sports that had since been forgotten in the state and country.

Speaking with our correspondent in Calabar, Duke said that the commission which was inaugurated in March 2016 has achieved a lot, “We were effectively inaugurated in March 2016, and we turned things around in sports including effective running of sports and sports commission in the state.

“Completion of our facilities at the sports stadium will need a lot of money and engagement in other sports competition will also bring in a lot of money and we have gone far into the field to solicit for assistance to help sports in the state.
“We are administering 43 sports here in the commission and government cannot do that alone.”

He explained that the commission had secured some companies that sponsored Taekwondo and Table Tennis competitions for primary and secondary schools.
The Chairman further revealed that the commission has put in place arrangement for basketball competition for underage girls and boys.

“We are going to also have Etubom Charles Ekpo Duke underage grassroots Tennis tourney and Ben Ayade under 15 football championships. That competition will kick-off by March 2017. We have lineup sports competitions that will last from January to June 2017.

“It might interest stakeholders of sports in Nigeria that we have registered a new team, Prof Ben Ayade United Football Club to play in the Division Two of the National league to show that our governor is interested in sports development in Cross River,” he concluded.
