Don urges Presidency, NASS to resolve differences

A lecturer in the Department of Science Education, Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Yankuzu, has said that the seeming friction between the Presidency and legislative arm of government is a needless distraction from the plight of Nigerians at this difficult period.

Yankunzu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Thursday that for Nigerians to feel the dividends of democracy, the two arms of government should ensure credible and reliable relationship.

“We thought over two years should be enough for those in government to assess their performance in delivering the promises they made to the nation.”

He explained that Nigerians were worried by the rejection of presidential nominees by the Senate.

“What we expect to hear from the members of the the National Assembly is whether the Acting Chairman of EFCC and Hameed Ali of the Customs Service are performing or not, compared to their predecessors.

“Now, there is no action on nominated Electoral Commissioners. What is their sin? Will it be morally right for legislators now to claim their full allowance at the end of the month after the boycott of the screening”

“I strongly advise that the executive arm of government should talk more in convincing Nigerians on why President Buhari is insisting on Magu to head the EFCC.”

He said the situation was getting Nigerians more frustrated and confused.

He said that Nigerians elected the present set of leaders based on principles of political change mantra.

“We want to see basic infrastructure in the areas of education, health care service, road network and not friction among the arms of government.”
