By Owen Akenzua

The Delta State government, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development has successfully trained over four thousand young female business owners from poor and vulnerable households across the 25 Local government Areas within the space of 6 months.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan stated this on Monday in Asaba the state capital.

Ms. Uduaghan disclosed that the training, which took place across the 25 LGAs, was in partnership with Enterprise Development Center (EDC) and MasterCard Foundation, adding that the training was designed in a way that at the end of the day, 1,500 successful participants who scaled through EDC’s goal-plan-test were the ones the State government empowered with the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira each.

The Commissioner further revealed that, aside from the government’s grant, these female entrepreneurs were given other entrepreneurial incentives by EDC such as business mentorship and business registration.

“The beauty of that part of the project is that even after the grant scheme, the Enterprise Development Center (EDC) still engages these entrepreneurs. So, they mentor them and each entrepreneur is paired with a mentor.

They monitor their businesses and they help them with CAC registration and also engage them in exhibitions to showcase their products,” she added.

Ms. Uduaghan disclosed further that through EDC, these young female entrepreneurs had their products projected to the global markets by engaging them in a periodic exhibition.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, community support services and Girl-Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan also stated that those who did not pass the EDC’s goal-plan-test received other business incentives like free website design as well as business logo design.

Uduaghan used the platform to commend the Oborevwori administration’s trailblazing achievement over the last two years, with unwavering commitment in advancing Delta in all fronts, particularly the vulnerable population.
