Crisis of confidence hits Accord Party, as chair is dragged to court
THE leadership crisis rocking the Accord Party has taken a new dimension as a Benin High Court will today commence hearing into the suit between the National Secretary of the party, Dr. Samson Isibor, and the national leadership of the party led by Mr. Lawal Muhammad Nalado
Also sued along with them is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who is the 3rd respondent in the suit.
In the suit filed by the plaintiffs’ counsel, S.E. Imoisili, they are asking the court for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from parading themselves as National Executive Committee officers of the party, taking any action for the party among others.
The plaintiffs claimed that the 1st respondent has violated the Accord Party’s constitution by holding double appointments, saying that apart from being the national chairman of the party, he has also the current chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, since 2013.
The plaintiffs therefore asked the court for an order of perpetual injunction restraining him from himself as the national chairman of the party pending the determination of the substantive suit.
