COVID-19: NAFDAC begins clampdown on fake hand sanitizer producers in Ebonyi

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has revealed it would begin clamping down on fake hand sanitizer producers in Ebonyi state.

State coordinator of NAFDAC, Dr. Kolawole Isaac, made this known while speaking with journalists after his visit to the Ebonyi state Vocational College, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
Kolawole, who stormed the college to inspect thousands of hand sanitizers and face masks produced by the college through the directive of the state Governor, David Umahi, certified the items for use in the 13 local government areas of the state as a remedy to the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
He commended the state governor and management of the college for the hygienic nature of the environment, the branding and the quality of the sanitizers and face masks which according to him meets international and NAFDAC standards.
He stated that “I have critically assessed all the face masks and sanitizers. They all meet our standards. I hereby declare that they should be used by people with efforts expedited to ensure these products get registered soon.”
Responding, the Special Assistant to the governor on Vocational Education, Mrs. Adaeze Nwaji, said the purpose for embarking on the production of hand sanitizer and face masks was to make sure that farmers in rural areas who have no money to buy sanitizers, would get the products to avert the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
“The college embarked on the production of these hand sanitizers and face masks as its token of support to the state government with the purpose to fight to finish the ravaging COVID-19.
“No doubt, our governor has shown sincerity of purpose and tenacity in his fight against the coronavirus in the state.

“This is evident when he closed both land and sea borders linking Ebonyi to other states.
“Umahi equally ensured the enforcement of the no-mask-no-movement order in the state with intention to forestall entrance of the dreaded coronavirus into the state,” she noted.
Nwaji further revealed the preparedness of the college to start the production of ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres in the state.
“I am optimistic that very soon, we will start producing ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres,” she stressed.
