Coalition of Civil Society Organizations calls for Peace

Christian and Muslim faithfuls across the country have been called upon to shun any act of violence and embrace peace to pave way for the socioeconomic development of Nigeria.

The call which was made on Thursday by the Chairman of Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Bauchi state, Mr Samuel B Yelmison when he led other peace ambassadors to Bauchi  emirate as part of the commemoration this years International Peace Day which was organized by  the CSOs in collaboration with  Development Exchange Center (DEC), calling on citizens of Nigeria to embrace peace  irrespective of religious and tribal inclination to foster development.

Yelmison appealed to Bauchi Emirate council to mobilize people to live in peace with one another irrespective of their differences for peace and security to prevail in the society.

Mr Ayuba Mainas who represented the Chairman of the group pointed out that the day was set aside by the United Nations to promote peace and mutual understanding around the world considering the importance of peace in human development.

He expressed worry over the recent happenings in some parts of the country and called on authorities concerned to address the challenges.

According to him, the coalition will continue to support all policies that aimed at ensuring peaceful Co existence and for the well-being of the less privileged in the state.

The Chairman who disclosed that due to violence many people have become orphans and vulnerable and urged Media Organizations to contribute towards ensuring peace and development in the country.

The coalition also expressed delight with the role being played by the Emir of Bauchi towards maintenance of peace in the state.

Commenting on the celebration of the Day in the state, the Communication Officer DEC Bauchi office Mr Dogara James called on the people of the state to respect one another to ensure peaceful Co existence.

‎He solicited the support of traditional institution to enable them contribute positively towards maintenance of peace and harmony among various religious groups in the state.

Nigeria Union of Journalists,Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN),Market Peace Forum,Women Entrepreneurship in Nigeria,Bauchi Human right Network,Bauchi State Network for Civil Society Organizations(BASNEC) Rahma Women Development Association and Heal Disability Initiative were among the groups that participated at the occasion.
