Christmas: STF bans fireworks In Plateau, tasks worshipers on security
The Special Task Force (STF), mandated to maintain peace in Plateau State and some parts of Bauchi State has reiterated its stand against the use of fireworks and ‘knock-outs’, during the festive season.
The STF has also tasked religious bodies on security tips during Christmas service aimed at forestalling any form of attack by terrorists.
Speaking with newsmen on its readiness to secure the State at Christmas, the STF Commander, Major General Rogers Ibe Nicholas, stated that anyone caught selling knock-outs will be prosecuted.
His words: “I have advised parents to call on their children to avoid the use of knock-outs and fireworks as the command will deal with anyone caught violating the law”, he said.
General Nicholas also said that church leaders should screen worshipers meters away from worship centres to prevent miscreants from taking undue advantage of the season.
On the renewed bombing currently rocking the northeastern part of the country, with the hostility in Southern Kaduna between farmers and herdsmen that has left scores of people dead, the Army boss said that water-tight patrol within the borders of the state is in place aimed at halting those with bad motives from coming into Plateau.
“We are also intensifying our physical patrol within the state to ensure that everybody is assured of his safety and to nip in the bud any situation that will otherwise create tension and sense of insecurity”.
He added that the Command has also seized about 100 weapons in December as part of the ongoing “mopping up of arms”, bringing the total arms sized so far to 4,100.
