What Christians, Muslims should do to ensure Buhari’s safe return – Bishop

Christians and Muslims should include the safe return of President Muhammad Buhari to Nigeria in their prayers, a cleric, Rt. Rev. Oluwarotimi Omotoye, has said.

He suggested this when he was ordained Bishop of The United Church of Cherubim and Seraphim Organisation Worldwide in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Speaking at the sideline of an episcopal consecration service of new bishops of the church, Omotoye explained that it was the will of God to make Buhari the leader of Nigerians.

According to him, regardless of Nigerians differences, the safety of the President should remain a general concern. He also urged politicians to “give necessary support for the development of Nigeria rather than express thirst for power”.

“We must be praying for the President, we must be praying for our leaders. It is God that has chosen him. We must all pray for him and include his safety in our prayers. I pray for his quick recovery. Others, regardless of faith or tribe should also do this across the country,” he added.

The bishop, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the growing rate of immorality in the country. He noted it was immorality that has made some political leaders in the country to show more interest in clinching the position of power rather than service to humanity. He said, “Immorality is a disturbing decadence that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society. Wherever we are, we must encourage the youths to dress properly.

It is civilisation that has eroded the value of our culture and I pray God will restore glory.” He explained that his vision was to bring more people to Christianity with his new post. The primate and archbishop of the church, Dr. Ebenezer Adereti, urged clerics in the country to contribute positively to the growth of Nigeria. Adereti asked religious leaders in Nigeria to be problems solvers and be peace loving.
