Can govern Anambra with my experience in private sector – Okonkwo

By Tunde Opalana
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Dr Obiora Okonkwo on Tuesday said if given the mandate in the November 6 governorship election, he that he will bring all his private sector experience into governance.
He told journalists, shortly after submitting his nomination/expression form at the PDP secretariat, Abuja when he into office as Anambra State governor, he will bring all his private sector experience into governance.
As a successful and fledging businessman, he said “in Nigeria, private individuals company and public quoted companies succeed in their businesses.
But the business of governance as always in one way or the other suffers a lot.
So there is a need for that private sector experience that is about efficiency, prudent, and more importantly about courage.
“We are going to bring courage into governance. We are going to take calculated risk and we are going to be prudent with resources and that is why we named ourv vision the project Anambra 2021.
It is well thought of, well designed and it will require the best hand to make that happen”.
The aspirant who wishes to leverage the voting strength of the Anambra Central senatorial district, said “I am coming from Anambra central which has the 60% of the voting population in the state.

And 25% of that 60% is domicile in my local government, the Idemili area federal constituency. This is not what you will be denied or ignore in a political calculation”.
He continued ” besides that, our 10 points agenda it is obvious to Anambra people that our 10 point agenda is very special. There is no single item out of that agenda we are not yet implementing in our own live as individuals running our own entities.
So if you meet those our friends who are also campaigning, they can not claim more than I will do that, I will create a job, I am already creating job.
“They can not claim that they will create wealth, I am already creating wealth in my private business. If they will say they will provide energy, they can not show what energy they have provided, I have provided.
If you come to my home town all the businesses and industries, including my home, are enjoying 90 to 95 percent power supply. Other aspirants also qualify, but amongst us, I am the most qualified”.
On the possibility of a compromised primary election, Okonkwo expressed hope that “nobody will use PDP anymore for personal business, having sustained the party leadership, from the state, to local government to the ward, up to this stage, we do not expect anything less.
“So we know the statutory delegates that are on the list at the party Secretariat, and those are the people that will come to vote. In addition, according to a party guidelines, there will be again three man ad hoc.
“The election is coming soon. And that is done, you already have close to 2000 to statutory delegates, three man ad hoc should be about 30%.
So I can tell that we have already 70% of the statutory delegate known to everybody. Those things are no more things of today, they are things of the past”
“And anybody who wants their vote is open and allowed to go and canvass for it. And I think by the end of the day, we expect that 3 man as hoc to be free and fair. And they will emerge, which is about 30%.
So it is a new Anambra. And they pray for us that nothing changed from now until June. So I am confident that that will not be the case right now”
