Bulkachuwa set up special task force to ensure speedy dispensation of cases

As part of measures to ensure that back log of pending appeals are disposed of expeditiously, President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has set up a task force committee made up of justices.
A copy of the notice of the postings signed by Justice Bulkachuwa, revealed that the judges were drawn from Makurdi, Ilorin, Yola, Ekiti and Sokoto Division to preside over appeals emanating from Lagos, Benin, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Abuja Division.
The appellate court further explained that the judges were drawn from these divisions because they have less work load.
Justice Bulkachuwa expressed optimism that with the development, the court of appeal is set to address the challenges of speedy dispensation of cases.
The PCA said, “I believe we are now ready to face the challenges responsible for speedy dispensation of justice”.

Musa Kachalla, also gave a breakdown of successful verdicts within the time frame as directed by Bulkachuwa.
According to the breakdown, the Special Task force in the Lagos Division which was drawn from Makurdi division has already commenced work has for far delivered about 85 Judgments.
Also, the special Taskforce which was drawn from Ilorin Division delivered a total number of 57 Judgments in the fourth quarter which ended on June 30 2017 while that of Ekiti that sat in Enugu Division delivered 38 judgments.
On their part, the justices of the Sokoto Division that presided over in Abuja delivered about 31 judgements and struck out 2 appeals while that of Yola Division gave verdicts on 21 appeals.
Meanwhile the Annual vacation of the Justices of the Court of Appeal will commence on the July 17, 2017 to end on September 11, 2017.
