Buhari won’t resign – protesters tell Charly Boy’s group
A pro-Buhari protest group Thursday hit the streets of Abuja from the Unity Fountain, drumming support for ailing President Mohammadu Buhari, saying that there is no vacancy in the presidency.
The group countered the allegations of the anti-Buhari group led by music impresario, Charles Oputa aka Charlie Boy, tagged “OurMumuDonDo,” which declared that President Buhari should ‘return or resign.’
The protesters who moved in procession to the Presidential Villa were accompanied by the Police and carried placards with various inscriptions like ‘Buhari, Osinbajo: We Are Fully With You,’ ‘Our President Is Recuperating,’ ‘God Has Healed Nigeria, Glory Be To God,’ ‘Nigerians Are United For President Buhari,’ and ‘Nigerians Endorsed Buhari Anti Corruption War,’ chanted songs in support of the Buhari administration.
The leader of the group, Goodluck Obi, told journalists that the president has not violated any section of the constitution as being propagated by some civil society groups.
He referred to the anti-Buhari group as a “rented group that is trying to undermine the peace in Nigeria,” sponsored by agents of corruption, saying that they had no reasons to clamour for Buhari’s return “because there is no vacuum in governance.”
Recall that the anti-Buhari group known as, “OurMuMuDonDo,” led by Charly Boy, on Monday began an indefinite sit-out at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, demanding Buhari’s resumption or resignation.
The Senate has also denounced the Charly Boy-led protest while the Police on day two of their sit-out used tear gas, dogs and hot water canisters to disperse them, claiming that they have been hijacked by miscreants.
The senate however acknowledged that they have the right to protest and condemned the police for their brutality on the protesters.
“While we are opposed to the subject of the protest, the Senate acknowledges that the protesters have the constitutional right to gather and express their views in a manner that will not breach public peace and order’’ Senator Sabi stated in a statement.
The spokesman of the Senate, Aliyu Abdullahi, urged the protesters to stop heating up the polity, saying that it was creating unnecessary tension in the country.
