Bayelsa records 29 new COVID-19 infections, 1 death

Bayelsa State has recorded an additional COVID-related death and 29 new infections as announced by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Director of Public Health and member of the state COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Jones Stowe, who gave the update in a statement on Thursday in Yenagoa, said the new death has brought the total number of deaths to 15. The state now has 234 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 114 active cases and 105 discharged persons.

Stowe however, explained that the 29 new cases were the outcome of the 300 samples sent to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) laboratory for testing.

The state government on June 17 disclosed that it has 300 pending samples for test in laboratories across the South-South, were having issues with reagents and supplies leading to delays in returning results.
