Bayelsa 2019 elections: Police summon chieftains of PDP, APC, others over peaceful conduct

The leadership of the Bayelsa State Police Command has summoned chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other stakeholders in the various political parties in the state to a meeting over the peaceful conduct of campaigns and elections in the state. The meeting, which is scheduled to hold on Thursday at the State headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. According to the Bayelsa Police Command, those expected to be in attendance are all political party chairmen and the candidates contesting in the forthcoming general election. The spokesman to the Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the development, said the meeting is a stakeholders meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command. Meanwhile, the traditional authorities of Twon Brass in Brass Local Government Area of the State have met with all candidates and supporters of the various political parties in the area over peaceful conduct and stop to violent clashes. The meeting, which was well attended, was able to reconciled politicians aggrieved from the 2015 and 2016 general and governorship elections in the state. At the end of the meeting, the Paramount Ruler of Twon Brass, HRH King Alfred Diette Spiff, in his proclamation dated Ordinance 01/2019, declared that “all secret cult and related associations/activities are hereby outlawed in Twon Brass Kingdom in line with extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” “That all dealers of illicit and or hard drugs are hereby ordered to stop henceforth or risk the privilege of continually living in Twon Brass Kingdom.
That all consumers of illicit or hard drugs are hereby ordered to stop in the alternative, they are ordered to leave the Kingdom or shall be arrested by Seriyai’s security and handed over to relevant security agency (Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency) for prosecution and the Kingdom shall testify against the such person(s)”. “That all non-indigenes living in Twon Brass Kingdom who engages and or encourages directly or indirectly activities capable of breaching peace and security of the Kingdom shall be banished from the Kingdom. That from this day henceforth, I King Alfred Diete Spiff (OFR,D.F.) hereby reaffirm that nobody, no matter how highly placed is authorized to handle or keep guns of any kind, machete for any purpose other than domestic or industrial use or any weapon that can cause bodily injury in Twon Brass Kingdom.” “That anyone involved directly or indirectly in kidnapping, sea piracy, informant to either of kidnappers or sea pirates, rape, any form of incident assault or indulges in related vices shall be banished from the Kingdom; that all Twon Brass Kingdom indigenes desirous of participating in politics are free to do so without molestation or intimidation. It shall be unlawful to coerce any individual to belong to a political party or vote one way or the other against his or her wish in Twon Brass Kingdom.” “That all political parties/political actors shall before, during and after elections conduct themselves in a manner that shall not directly or indirectly compromise the safety and security of the Kingdom. The Kingdom shall not tolerate any breach of peace in the guise of politics.”
