Bauchi deputy gov recovers from COVID-19 as medical personnel dies

The Deputy Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Baba Tela has been discharged from the isolation center following his recovery from the coronavirus disease.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who made the disclosure during the COVID-19 update at the Government House auditorium on Wednesday, expressed concern that 69 new cases were recorded on Tuesday.
“Yesterday, we had 69 new cases, but the situation is under control. Now, we have 131,” he said.
The governor threatened to place a total lock down in the state if people fail to adhere to the protocols of curtailing the spread of the virus and the number of cases keep on increasing.
It can be recall that the deputy governor who is the state chairman, task force commitee on COVID-19 and Lassa fever tested positive to the virus early June, after exhibiting symptoms of the virus.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammed Maigoro said that 60 per cent of the positive cases recorded in the state were brought into the state while the remaining are from community transmission and the initial index case in the state.
Out of the 69 positive cases recorded in the state on Tuesday, Maigoro noted that most of them were from the military personnel that came into the state for an assignment as well 10 inmates from a correctional facility.
He pointed out that the ommittee is mapping out a new strategy that will enable it effectively combat the pandemic as it is been done in the countries where the treatment is scaled down to the local level.
The commissioner assured that the committee is working round the clock to ensure that there will be no community transmission of the infection in state.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of the state Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said the positive cases smuggled their way into Bauchi state due to the relaxation of the lockdown.
He said that the isolation centres across the state are fully functional and ready to take in positive cases and offer the required treatment, and management.
Dr. Mohammed, who declared that there will not be home management of any case, expressed deligth with the molecular laboratory that is now functional in the state.
“All sample tests are done in the center and the new development has made management very easy,”.he added.
He assured that surveillance and contact tracing will be intensified to ensure that all symptomatic patients are tested, isolated and treated, saying that the committee is working round the clock to curtail the spread of the virus.
