Awka in Shock as Unknown Gunmen Kidnap and Kill “Fish Magnet”
The wave of insecurity in Southeastern Nigeria has deepened following the kidnap and murder of Mr. Ifesinachi onyekere, widely known as the Fish Magnet, on July 27th 2025.
Ifesinachi, who had become a household name for his success in fish farming, was abducted from his residence in , Awka. His navy blue Toyota car was later discovered at ukulu/Igbariam road. A chilling note was left inside the car , threatening that the killers would return for Nneka Clara,” believed to be either his wife or an employee.
The tragic incident has left residents of Awka devastated, with many expressing fear and frustration over the rising level of insecurity in the region. Locals lament that despite repeated killings and kidnappings, perpetrators often escape justice, raising concerns about the capacity of security agencies to protect lives and property.
Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and assured that investigations are ongoing. He stressed that all individuals connected to the crime will be tracked down and prosecuted.
