ASUU begins indefinite nationwide strike today

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun an indefinite nationwide industrial action.

Rising from its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting on Sunday night, the union instructed all its members across the country to proceed on a nationwide strike.

The decision was reached after the meeting of the leaders of the union held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, in Ondo state.

Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, the National President of ASUU who announced the decision of the body to journalists lamented over the poor funding of nation’s universities

Ogunyemi consequently directed all members of the union across various universities to withdraw their services and stay away from their respective universities.

He also stressed that the industrial action which commenced with an immediate effect would be total and indefinite.
