Armed robbers attack bullion van, cart away cash in Rivers state

Dare devil armed robbers on Thursday hijacked a bullion van carrying cash to an undisclosed bank along Igwuruta Road in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state and carted away cash running into millions of naira.

An eye witness who was at the scene of the incident narrated that the robbers numbering over five intercepted the van, shot directly at the van wounding the police escorts.

According to the source, the armed robbers jumped down from their vehicle and within two minutes transferred all the money in the bullion into their car and sped out of the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the robbery incident, but stated that the information available to him was still very sketchy. He said as at press time, that the command was still awaiting detailed information from the DPO of the area.
