APC to decide principal officers in 9th assembly- House caucus

The House of Representatives caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Tuesday that only the party hierarchy that can determine the sharing of principal officers positions in the 9th assembly to be inaugurated in June.
The caucus rising from a meeting announced this to newsmen in Abuja.
House Leader, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who addressed newsmen accompanied by other caucus members, said that the party will make the final decision in that regard, adding that it’s the international best practices to have the party share positions in the principle of party supremacy.
Rep. Gbajabiamila however, said that the House caucus wasn’t focused on the issue of leadership positions for now, but that the APC will be saddled with the responsibility of taking the final decision.
He warned caucus members to concede to the supremacy of the party and the majesty of democracy.
“We’re not focused on leadership now, the party will make the final decision. It’s international best practices and we hope party members will concede to party supremacy,” the House leader said.
Commenting on the just concluded general elections, the caucus condemned the perpetrators of violence, regretting the loss of lives which included that of a serving House member.
According to the caucus, a contest such as the elections shouldn’t result in the loss of human lives, notwithstanding that the elections were largely free and fair.
The caucus stated that it believes that there was no victor, no vanquished, because the victory belongs to democracy and Nigerians and congratulated the various contestants and parties for their level of competitiveness, and remarkable showing.
They further commended the INEC for conducting credible and perfect elections, noting that though elections weren’t perfect worldwide, that as lawmakers the National Assembly was ready to re- tool the Electoral Act so that by 2023, the country can have a near perfect polls.
“We will look at the Electoral Act amendment bill and we will do reforms; there are perfect elections anywhere in the world, so that by 2023, we will present a near perfect or even perfect electoral law,” the caucus assured.
