APC absent at peace pact signing in Nasarawa
Ahead of 2019 general election, 29 gubernatorial candidates of different political parties in Nasarawa State have signed peace accord with the absence of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Engineer, Abdulahi Sule.
The signing of the peace pact held at Taal conference hotel Lafia was to ensure violence free election in the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Uthman Abdulrahaman Ajidagba, said it is no longer news that most election in the country are characterised by violence where destruction of properties and killings took place hence the need for signing of the pact.
According to him, “The commission has reason to be worried that seeds of discord and mayhem are being surreptitiously planted and constantly watered in Nigeria.
“One of the way to mitigate the combustible eruption is to put heads together and say no to violence hence the gathering”, he stressed.
Earlier on, in a goodwill massage, representative of Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) Alhaji Ibrahim Saleh Hassan said they organized the event in collaboration with INEC to put to paper the commitment of candidatures of different political parties in the forth coming electoral exercise in the state.
“The peace pact that you are signing today is an indication of your commitment to good conduct and readiness to adhere to co democratic tenant.
We encourage you to please, for the sake of our children, women and even youth for a better lives and abide by the content in this pact”, he added.
Some of the political parties’ candidates present at the occasion include: David Emmanuel Ombugadu, (PDP), Labaran Maku, (APGA), Ishak Kana (SDP), among many others.
