Anambra police arrest 56 suspected cultists

Anambra State Police Command has arrested a total number of 56 suspected cultists from various parts of the State within the month of November.
According to Police spokesman Mohammad Haruna SP, in a statement yesterday the arrest was made through the Special Anti Cultism Squad of the Command.
Haruna said, “Following recent upsurge in cults activities in the State, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Garba Baba Umar has directed for immediate and aggressive manhunt of perpetrators including their sponsors in order to stem the tide of the menace and the directives has started yielding positive results”.
A breakdown of the arrest which was made in November alone shows that13 suspects who confessed to be cultists were arrested in Ogidi/Nkpor while 10 suspects were picked from Ihiala LGA.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed who signed the statement further disclosed that seven of the suspects were arrested from the state capital Awka and its environs.
Eight suspects were also arrested in Nawfia/Enugwu Ukwu; seven suspects from Atani while Ayamelum Local Government produced11 of the arrested suspects.
The police statement also noted that 38 out of the 56 suspects arrested have so far confessed and charged to Court while 18 others are under investigation.
The Command said it is determined as usual to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the State no matter how highly placed they might be especially during this period of ember months.
It promised to deal decisively with anyone apprehended in accordance with the Law.
“The Command further assured all Ndi Anambra of its commitments towards providing Safety and Security in the State and implores parents/guardians to Caution their children to refrain from indulging into cultism and other nefarious activities”. Haruna added.
