Anambra gets N 3.5m sports equipment

 

Equipment worth of N 3.5 million has been donated to Anambra State government for improvement of grassroots boxing in the state.

The donation was revealed when a team from Bullet Company, the sponsors of boxing programme, along side the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Barr Uju Nworgu, and the young boxing trainees paid a courtesy visit to Governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

Receiving the team, the Governor, Willie Obiano, said the state would tap from the opportunity to further strengthen and improve boxing, which he said had been his administration’s priority to project sports to global standard.

Governor Obiano noted that the state would without delay select the young trainees from the grassroots in different communities, adding that his administration would not relent in giving environment friendly opportunity for investors to strive.

The Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Barr Uju Nworgu observed that the essence of chosen Anambra was due to the tremendous achievements of the state in sports competitions, within and outside the country, saying the state would represent Nigeria in Tunisia on chess competition.

Barr Nworgu said the Ballet Company in addition to equipment had promised provided a boxing ring to ensure efficiency and productivity.

Presenting the equipment, the leader of Bullet Drinks, Mr Anthony Uche stressed that Anambra was the first to benefit from the company’s largesse by officially unveiling the boxing team.

Mr Uche maintained that the company would always partner with the state government on sports development, especially on grassroots boxing.

He rated Anambra high as the only state that had provided enabling environment for investors.

In his remarks, the Commonwealth Boxing Championship, Ngozika Ekwelum, expressed gratitude to governor and promised to always support the present administration in making sports viable.

Some of the equipment presented were, boxing gloves, speed ball, bandages, head and tooth guard, coach body protector, punching bag and pad among other things.

The highlight was demonstration of boxing exercise by the trainees.
