The maxim that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow played out at the weekend as the youths wing of Enugu Ukwu Development Union came out enmasse to decide their future political interest.
The youths in their large numbers gathered at Pacos Square, Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka local government Area, Anambra State.
It was gathered that the aim was to unanimously endorse their son, Akweke Francis Chidozie Okoye, for Njikoka one consituency in the state House of Assembly, for the 2019 general elections.
Okoye, who accepted to represent his people, promised to enthrone legislative excellence and attract meaningful development that would reshape the future of the youths.
Okoye, who is contesting under Youths Progressives Party (YPP), regretted that Enugu Ukwu had been marginalised in terms of structural development and those who should project the deplorable condition to the government were egocentric.
He said: “Our Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, is a minus to Enugu Ukwu. He is like a spare tire. He is redundant, as far as this administration is concerned.
“Every community has benefited tremendously from this administration. There roads are tarred, but Enugu Ukwu remains stagnant, irrespective of the fact that Deputy Governor is from this town.
“We cannot continue to be in political blackout when we have men and women endowed with political ability.
“Since you people decided I should serve you, I will ensure our town is at the forefront of every distribution.
“My first priority is to attract the attention of government on our roads, especially the roads leading to the express. I will attract legislative transformation.
“Another agenda is the promote intellectualism among our youths. Education is dwindling and it is our collective responsibility, for the future of our youths. I will move a motion to promote education, especially basic education.
“The third agenda is to create windows of opportunities for the youths. We will launch different empowerment skills for our teeming youths. We created entrepreneurial classes and make it accessible for every youths.
“Let me say it clear again that I will only be in the State House of Assembly for four years. I can’t go for re-election. In the next four years, I should be 40 years, I should be going higher to offer opportunity for another youth to occupy the position.
“I am not desperate. If Enugu Ukwu youths engage in proper juxtaposition of the candidates in Enugu Ukwu, coming for same position, and decide I should step down, I will support whoever emerges. But since you have decided unanimously to endorse me, I will attract unprecedented transformation.”
He further stated that he would deploy his wealth of political knowledge and experience in ensuring equitable distribution of resources, in accordance to natural Justice, equity and good conscience.
While urging the youths to utilise their vote during elections, Okoye admonished them to refrain from political slavery and gladiators who never had their interest at heart.
Also speaking, the Director General of Akweke Francis Chidozie Okoye Campaign Organisation, Mr. Ifeanyi Jerry, observed that Okoye had headed various political positions both in his town and beyond.
Jerry, who described Okoye as local political master, said he (Okoye) had the prowess to take his constituency to limelight.
Equally, another stakeholder in the community youths wing, Mr. Nebolisa Ifeanyi, confirmed that Okoye was divinely endowed with political intelligence to transform the native political history of Enugu ukwu.
