Alves makes La Liga history

Diego Alves broke the record for penalty saves in La Liga as Valencia beat Leganes 2-1 at Butarque. The Brazilian kept out Alexander Szymanowski’s second-half spot-kick to help his side to a second league win of the season in their first match since the sacking of head coach Pako Ayestaran. Szymanowski had put the home side ahead after 21 minutes from Omar Ramos’ delivery, but Nani’s first Valencia goal drew the visitors level in controversial fashion 13 minutes later.
Hamburg sack Labbadia
Bruno Labbadia has been sacked as Hamburg head coach after the club’s poor start to the 2016-17 season. The 50-year-old was in his second spell in charge of the club, having taken over in April 2015. Labbadia led the club to a 10th-place finish last term. However, Hamburg only have one point from their first five Bundesliga matches this time around, with the last straw proving to be their last-gasp 1-0 home loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Simeone’s son Giovanni scores first Serie A goal
Diego Simeone’s son Giovanni opened his Serie A account by scoring for Genoa in their 1-1 draw at home to Pescara on Sunday. Simeone, who featured for Argentina at the Olympic Games and signed for Genoa from River Plate in August, gave his side the lead shortly after half-time. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old and Genoa, they could not close out the match, with red cards for Edenilson and Goran Pandev proving key as Rey Manaj equalised with five minutes to play.
