Ali Calls For Overhauling Of Nigeria’s Security Apparatus

A legal practitioner, Mallam Yusuf Ali (SAN) has called for total overhauling of the nation’s security apparatus.
Ali who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara state said the nation’s security architecture needs complete overhauling to curb the excesses of security personnel across the country.
He pointed out that the security operatives lack respect for their civilian countrymen and thus meting inhuman treatment on them.
Ali who made the call while fielding questions from journalists in Ilorin at a luncheon he organised in honour of the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age AbdulKareem , described the security agencies as repressive instruments used by people in authority against ordinary citizen.
He, however, stressed the need for the country to train all her able bodied citizens in the use of fire arms as being done in advanced countries of the world.
On the issue of insurgency, the legal luminary said it would be difficult to completely eliminate the terrorists, saying that Nigeria is battling with guerilla war which is difficult to fight as members of the deadly group spread across the country.
He attributed the cause of insurgency to unemployment, ignorance, lack of political will to fight the war and extra judicial killing of the acclaimed leader of Boko Haram, Muhammed Yusuf.
