Alexander Isak wants Newcastle exit amid liverpool interest

Alexander Isak has reportedly told Newcastle United he wants to leave the club this summer — and Liverpool are waiting in the wings.

The Swedish striker, who joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022, has grown into one of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards, scoring 23 league goals last season.

But reports from England suggest he is now pushing for a move.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Isak is keen on joining a bigger club and has Liverpool high on his radar.

“Understand Alexander Isak remains a target for Liverpool even after signing Ekitike… but depends on Newcastle,” Romano posted on X.

Liverpool’s interest comes as they seek attacking reinforcements, especially with reports that Luis Díaz could be sold.

Romano also disclosed that contact was made between Liverpool and Isak’s camp ten days ago, and a formal bid was turned down.

Newcastle are yet to officially declare their stance, but the club has reportedly started exploring options for a new striker, according to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.

However, head coach Eddie Howe has dismissed talk of an exit, insisting Isak is “untouchable.”

“We have a few of those players who are irreplaceable. Your top players are so hard to find, so hard to recruit, and so hard to develop. So, when you have them, you need to treasure them,” Howe said.

“Of course, we’re desperate to keep him as part of our team.”

Howe stopped short of a full guarantee, acknowledging the uncertainty that comes with every transfer window.

“I think it’s difficult for me to ever give 100 per cent clarity on any player — I’d never do that,” he said.

“All I can say is Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players, the staff, the team.”

While Newcastle may resist a sale, history shows clubs often end up parting ways with their stars despite public reassurances.

Romano also addressed speculation of a Saudi Arabia move, confirming that Isak is “not in concrete talks with Al Hilal so far.”

Liverpool remain the only top English side currently pursuing the 24-year-old, who could become a major addition to their frontline if Newcastle open the door.

With the new season set to kick off in August, all eyes will be on whether Newcastle can hold on to their talisman — or if the lure of Anfield proves too strong.
