A’Ibom ready to inaugurates 49 road projects

The Akwa Ibom state government is set to commission over 49 road construction projects as part of activities to mark the upcoming Democracy Day celebration while other ones delayed by contractors have been terminated.

The road projects ready for inauguration, include, roads at Nsit Atai, Obot Akara into Edino Road, Mkpok Okat Road, Ikot Usop, Awa Edem and 4.6km road around Akwa Ibom state University, Obio Akpa campus in Oruk Anam Local Government.

Others are the 6.41 km road in Atan Offot, Udunguko Road and Ikot Ebiekpe Road among others.

Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen disclosed this yesterday in Uyo, during a media chat to give the scorecard of the ministry in the past four years.

Inyangeyen further disclosed that the road projects cut across the three senatorial districts in the state, especially those council areas neglected by the previous administration in the state.

He said some of the roads projects would be considered in the first line charge, immediately the next administration comes into office, revealing that some of the road projects delayed by contractors have been terminated and re-awarded to other contractors for effective delivery.

He said the affected road projects, include, the Ibom Airport Uya Oron Road which has been abandoned by Aquatic Construction Company Ltd, Ikot Ekara Ibesit Okpokoro Road also abandoned by Hammakop Nigeria Limited as well the other road projects that vendors have delayed in their execution.

“The Ibom Airport to Uya Oron Road project awarded to Aquatic Construction Ltd is hereby cancelled due to unnecessary delays. The road project would be re-awarded to another contractor while Ikot Ekara Ibesit Okpokoro Road handled by Hammakop Nigeria Ltd has been re- assigned to JMK Company to continue from where the revoked contractor stopped.
