AGF to convene one-day Justice Summit

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said in Tuesday that he will convene a one-day National Summit on Justice with a view to fashion out a workable document in the justice sector.

Comrade Salihu Othman Isah,the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. He added that the summit has been slated for August 10, 2017.

Isah also disclosed that the summit would be preceded by a two-day technical session on August 8-9, 2017; to build consensus on how the nation’s justice system can overcome its challenges.

The technical session which is to be representative is expected to produce the policy document to be presented to the enlarged summit for adoption on August 10.

According to him, the summit is under the auspices of the Federal Justice Sector Reform Coordinating Committee (FJSRCC) chaired by erudite law Professor, Muhammad Tabiu and facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

It will attract all Attorneys General, Solicitors General, Chief Judges of all the 36 states of the Federation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigerian Police Force and Nigerian Prisons Service.

Others are the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning as well as all parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Justice.

About ten civil society organizations including the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) and the Legal Resources Centre for Socio-Legal Studies and the academia among others.
