Adeyeye, Adebayo Blast PDP Defectors
Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and a former governor of Ekiti State, Chief Niyi Adebayo, have described members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after General Mohammadu Buhari, of the APC, became the President-elect, as “fair weather” politicians.
The duo, who spoke in different interviews with journalists in Ise Ekiti and Iyin Ekiti, respectively, said the defectors should have remained in PDP and make it a formidable opposition party to the APC from May 29.
Adeyeye, who said he would remain in the PDP, described the action of the defectors as a “serious concern and worrisome.”
He said “I advise the PDP members to rebuild the party, we need to have a viable opposition. I think people should stay and work for the success of their party. “I am not going to defect, I don’t believe APC will do better than PDP.”
Adeyeye said the loss of the PDP at the presidential election would rather afford leaders of the party the opportunity to reform it. “You need this kind of jolt to look back, I know a lot of things are wrong with the PDP, so it is an opportunity to review ourselves and re-strategise.
“I can tell you these people (APC) cannot go far. I am aware that one of the big shots is already coming back to the PDP”, he said, adding that, notwithstanding the mass defection of members to the APC, the PDP would provide a virile opposition to the incoming APC-led federal government.
“The real opposition that will be offered is not from the PDP, but, Nigerians, having been able to experience another government. Nigerians should not fear that there won’t be a virile opposition,” he added.
Adebayo said the defectors should have stayed in the party to build it because a virile and viable opposition party was needed to keep the ruling party on its toes.
