Abia ex-lawmaker tasks Tinunbu on convening national dialogue for reconciliation

Abia State deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in 2023 , and the immediate past member representing Aba South in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Obinna Ichita, has advocated the convocation of a national dialogue aimed at resolving the various causes of agitation in different parts of the country, and achieving true reconciliation.
The ex-lawmaker who is currently the Country Director/Principal Representative of the German Initiative for Knowledge Transfer eV, in Nigeria, also called for the release of all self determination agitators held up in various security detention cells in the country.
Ichita made the call in a statement where he also gave his assessment of the performances of President Bola Tinubu, and Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State..
He argued that Nigeria could advance if political prisoners were freed, and the various national questions frankly discussed.
It read in part:”In the spirit of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and in the interest of Justice, I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and direct the commencement of processes for the release of all agitators including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and to also initiate a program that will culminate in a national dialogue for genuine reconciliation of differences to foster national unity, economic stability and and national security.

“This model is in tune with the President’s 4-D diplomacy and is most likely to yield a predictable outcome as discussions will replace agitations”, Ichiya said.
The former lawmaker urged the Government and people of Nigeria to reflect on the wording of the new national anthem “so as to build a peaceful and prosperous homeland, where no one is oppressed”.
Ichita commended the security strategies put in place by the President, and for his efforts to institutionalize transparency in governance.
“It is my prayer that under his leadership, Nigeria will emerge prime investment destination and an indispensable player in the global field”, he added
The former deputy governorship candidate also applauded Gov. Otti’s developmental strides especially in infrastructure, and urged him to sustain the tempo.
“The infrastructural development of the state under his watch is quite commendable and represents a visible shift towards the path of development.
“I pray that his administration will jumpstart the economic development of Abia and showcase to the world, the entrepreneurial ingenuity of the Abia people”, the statement said.
The ex-lawmaker advised against destructive criticism of those in power, while urging leaders to use criticism of its policies and programmes as feedback mechanism for good governance.
