The affected teachers were alleged to have committed various offences ranging from lateness, truancy and outright absence from their duty post without permission as well as having more than three queries in their files.

State Chairman, Secondary Education Board, Umana Umana, disclosed this while featuring in a live Comfort FM radio programme monitored in Uyo on Tuesday.

“We don’t take things for granted again; we want to ensure that both teachers and students are effective so that there will be an efficient learning process. Our monitoring teams are on the field on daily basis making sure they do effective monitoring,” he said.

Umana, who did not mention the number of teachers involved said the board would soon give details, saying that government is committed to ensuring that teachers show a high sense of commitment in their work places.

He warned students against examination malpractices, warning that any students found indulging in the act would not be spared as the board is set to sanitise the education sector.

The board chairman appealed to the students to prepare adequately for the upcoming WAEC and NECO examinations and to also shun social vices.

Referring to the recurring clashes by students of Ewet Technical College, Uyo High School and Christian Secondary School, Umana warned that students caught perpetrating such activities will face appropriate disciplinary action.

He said the education board had earlier held a meeting with regards to stopping the clashes, assuring that such incidents would not rear their ugly heads again.
