Court throws out case against Gov. Ishaku

A Federal Court of Appeal, sitting in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Presided over by Justice Jummai Hanatu Sankey, has dismissed an appeal by a governorship aspirant, in Taraba State, David Sabo Kente, challenging the verdict of a Federal High Court, in Jalingo on the  authenticity of the candidature of the incumbent, Governor Ishaku Darius.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Sankey ruled against the appeal for lack of merit.

Kente had wanted the court should set aside the ruling of the Federal High Court and declared him as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Taraba State during the 2015 Governorship elections.

The lead counsel to Governor Darius, Akanmode Abayomi, described the verdict as a landmark judgment that vindicated his client.

The Attorney General Taraba state, Barr. Yusuf Nya Akirikwaru said, the judgment was a victory for democracy and the people of the state.

Similarly, the Chairman of PDP Taraba State,Victor Bala Kona, commended the Judge for considering the rule of law, describing the verdict also as a victory for the leadership of the PDP and people of the state.

The lead counsel to the appellant, Barr Abbas Ajiya, said they were heading to the Supreme Court.
