Airtel Nigeria Gives Succour to Old Woman, Hapless Youth
Airtel Nigeria has demonstrated its resilience through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by celebrating and assisting beneficiaries who are people still struggle to have a decent life.
Airtel Nigeria has through its CSR once again showed the need to help people that face everyday challenges and the passion and outlook is reflected by the premier episode of the focused television series, Airtel Touching Lives.
Life in a rural community is not a bed of roses as diverse people are found still struggling to have a decent life while living as singles without support from their family.
Hear the pathetic story of Mama Mercy Wbiabia who is a barren and has suffered most of her life as a result of rejection by her family and her community.
Mercy Wbiabia who hails from Nonwa a rural community located outside Port Harcourt city is a considerable farmer who does not have a farm of her own, lives in a mud house where part of the house has collapsed, but found herself struggling to look after herself and her sister son, Sunday Nomubari who is like a son that was left with her.
Mercy was nominated in order for her to get help from Airtel Touching Lives programme by James Wbiloyii who felt the pitiable state of his aunt whenever he travels home only to listen to her tales of how she has been humiliated; intimidated; sometimes beaten and also robbed of her food
On his part, Nomubari was unable to complete his school because of money and he is helping her because he was born out of wed lock and he promised never to neglect her. The duo was very happy when Airtel Nigeria decided to support her and touch her life by giving and making her comfortable.
Airtel has promised to build a one bedroom bungalow for her, giving sixty plastic chairs; ten plastic tables and two canopies. She thanked Airtel and said she never imagine such great change can ever happen to her.
The second story in the premier episode of the focused television series, Airtel Touching Lives is that of Akinwale Adesina who despite his own limitations, has been rendering a selfless service to train hapless youths in the community for free.
Adesina was born in Ogbomosho, Osun State and went to primary and secondary school at Ogbomosho, unfortunately was unable to finish his secondary education due to family problems and financial issues but was encouraged by his mother who took him to a church where he assisted in organising computer centre named Glorious Computer Institute.
He said he is always happy to teach children about computers and motivated when he sees children or youth who are willing to make good their lives.
Akanbi Samson Olawale who nominated Adesina Airtel Touching Lives programme said he had known him for four years as someone that is gentle; kind; willing to learn, and hardworking.
One of Adesina’s students Taofeck Akanji, testified that he joined the Winner Computer Institute in order to become a successful person in life and also be able to help his friends and family. While another beneficiary of the institute, Alabi Grace said she went to the institute to study computer because she had been challenged that what a man can do a woman can do better.
Airtel Nigeria has decided to empower Adesina and his computer institute by donating four computers; a generator; UPS; Internet modem; A Black/White and Colour Printer; two external drives; two card readers; scanner and laminating machine and a one year shop rent.
An excited Adesina thanked the people’s network as these tools were rolled out for empowering him to achieve his dream of helping himself and assisting the less privileged youths in his environ.
