NEMA Records 762 IDPs in Zamfara
A total of 762 Internally Displaced Persons have been recorded by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Zamfara state.
Director General of the Agency Alhaji Sani Sidi disclosed this at a sensitization workshop on the dangers of post elections violence held in Gusau Zamfara state capital.
Sidi who was represented by the Assistant Head of Sokoto Operation Office of the Agency, Mr. Thickman Tanimu observed that the displaced persons were subjected to untold hardship as a result of the series of crisis.
According to him, most of the IDPs victims were forcefully ejected from their Towns and villages as a result of unidentified Gunmen and Cattle Rustlers simultaneously attacks.
He further stated that, the incidents occurred mostly in Gusau, Tsafe, Birninmagaji, Anka, Bukkuyum, Maradun, Gummi and Zurmi local government areas of the state.
Tanimu said NEMA had received the report of the IDPs through the Zamfara state Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), stressing that, all the required arrangement was on top geared by the agency to ameliorate the victims hardship conditions as soon as possible.
He expressed worried over total neglect of the victims by the government.
He commended the host communities for providing accommodation to the IDPs victims, and cautioned the Host Communities of the IDPs in GUSAU to always be security conscious while receiving the victims considering the security challenges in the state.
On the dangerous of post elections violence, the Director General of NEMA cautioned political parties and its candidates in the state to eschew any forms of thuggery that could disrupt the forthcoming general elections in order to enable INEC conduct hitch free and successful elections.
He said, no meaningful development could be attain in a society where absent of peace and rules of law was the order of the day.
In his address of welcome, the Chairman Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) Engr. Sanusi Kwatarkwashi lauded the effort of NEMA national body Sokoto Operations Unit for organizing the workshop in ZAMFARa state, stressing that, the workshop was came at a right time and direction.
