FG gas project to create 5m jobs in 2015, says minister

Minister of Petroleum Re­sources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Ma­dueke, has predicted that the Gas Revolution Industrial Park, billed to host fertilizer, petrochemical and methanol plants, will gener­ate additional five million jobs for Nigerians.

The minister, who disclosed this yesterday, during the defence of her ministry’s budget at the House of Representatives joint committees on gas, petroleum (upstream) and (downstream), maintained that pre-construction activities have already created over 1, 000 jobs while additional 50,

000 jobs would be created at the peak of construction activities.

Allison-Madueke informed the joint House committee that when the gas industrial park becomes fully functional, the fertilizer and petrochemical plants will pro­duce over 5 million value-chain jobs.

She said that already over 400 youth have been trained as in­ternationally-certified welders, while 15 highly specialised pilots have already been trained under a pilot training scheme.
