Only the idle ones will be sexually harassed in the industry- Singer Annjay
With a new single and several business ventures, budding singer, song writer, model and entrepreneur John Angela Chioma, better known as Annjay, is one artiste to look out for. Speaking with MUTIAT ALLI in this interview, the former journalist says that she is not willing to compromise her dignity for a shot at fame. She also talks about other issues including career, love and marriage.How and When did your journey started as an artist?
I started singing from the church and later I contested in the Nigeria Idol season 1 and later I wasn’t picked. So I moved on and everything is a story today.
How would you describe the experience so far?
Everything is cool now compared to when I just started. I work hard and harder every day for a better me. I’m not perfect but trust me everything about Annjay is cool by God’s grace. I can perform anywhere in the world with A list just as I have been doing in Nigeria and other countries. I’m working on Better me and every day is for hustle (Work).
When did you record your first single and what’s the title?
I recorded my first single back then in 2010 titled Fly High.
What were the things you didn’t well in the first single that you had improved on?
Production wise and composing. But as I speak now if you listen to my new songs you will know that a lot of job has been done. I work every day for improvement and Jehovah is helping out.
How would you assess your music career in terms of its acceptance by your fans?
I have my fan based now everywhere compared to when I just started music. They like my song and demands for more from me. I’m working and I can’t stop working as music is not something you rush. It requires patience and timing.
It’s always not been easy for female Entertainer to rise without been sexually harassed by men, Have you experienced that?
No! I have never experienced it because music is all about you. If you have something doing for a living that is generating funds for you I don’t see why you should be sexually harassed. It’s those looking for free things that are sexually harassed. Everyone know me as a workaholic. I started working as a journalist and making my own money from advertisement at age 16.I don’t look for free productions or free song writers.And funny enough the producers I work with are my big brother friend and also family friends.
You were a journalist turned musician, what prompted this, is journalism not paying your bills anymore?
Journalism prepared me for everything I’m today. It pays but the truth is that I have many other businesses I’m doing that’s helping music and pay bills. And I can no longer combine both careers together because my hands were full already for other things. So I stopped working as a journalist. Many people recognized me as a journalist in the industry. So my passion for journalism is intact if you ask me.
What should your fans expect from you musically?
They should expect more cool sounds and good music from me. I’m not done yet but taking my time to do things right musically. I’m not in a rush at all to release wack songs.
You own many businesses, how do you combine it with music?
I have staffs working for me because I can’t do it alone but with grace of God I have been able to combine both and it worked out.
What is the nature of your business?
Beauty products.
Why did you go into beauty product?
I went into beauty business because I like it and it’s part of my profession as a singer and a model. I have been doing this business before I went into journalism but not as big as its now. Annjay products is international now. We have our clients globally. Some USA U.K., SA,Ghana and many more. People order our goods products from there and we ship to them.
What inspires you?
God and myself. My hard work inspires me a lot.I like beauty products too and I can spend my last kobo on it. As a teenager back then if I want to buy any beauty product and my money is not complete will go into installment agreements with them, after payment they hand over my what I paid for to me. I use quality expensive beauty products on myself and that’s why we sell good things.
You got endorsed by a Chinese solar company of recent, how does it feel?
I feel very great about the whole thing. Working as brand ambassador for an international company as Ja Solar Energy Equipment ltd feels good
You are sexy with good curves, how do you maintain your Gods Given Beauty?
I do normal thing. I drink a lot of water,fruits and more vegetables. Generally i watch what I eat and the time I’m eating it. I don’t take sugar but I take honey. I don’t use strong chemicals on my skin.
What is your love life like? Are you single or engaged?
My love life is intact but not for public as I don’t like talking about my love life on the pages of news pages. I no dey market and I’m not searching.

Stay humble and happy .if you plan to go into entertainment make sure you have something doing to back yourself up or else you not going anywhere.
