Apologize to Nigerians if involved in Plateau massacre, Gowon tells Miyetti Allah

Former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has asked Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to apologise to Nigerians if actually the recent massacre of over 200 persons in Plateau State were retaliatory as credited to the socio-cultural organisation.

Gowon stated this on Tuesday in Jos, the state capital when he paid a sympathy visit to Governor Simon Lalong over the tragic killings by armed gunmen in Barkin-ladi Local Government Area of the state.

The Daily Times recalls that MACBAN came under criticism for allegedly saying that the attack was payback for 300 cattle that were rustled by suspected natives of the area.

Gowon, who spoke while answering questions from journalists said, “if what Miyetti Allah said is true, then they should apologise to Nigerians.”

On his part, Governor Lalong said the relevant laws to try perpetrators of the recent attacks on the Plateau will soon be signed into law.

According to him, adequate laws to prosecute offenders in Jos is under review.

He said, “We’ve reviewed adequate laws to prosecute offenders and ensure the enthronement of sustainable peace on the Plateau.”

The Governor then commended the former Head of State for standing by the state as a father, pledging that efforts are being made to restore the state to its lost glory.
