Finance, Consumers good, services sector lift turnover with 143.82m shares

A total turnover of 2.182 billion shares worth N22.795 billion in 17,019 deals were traded last week ended Friday, 24 November, 2017, by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 2.804 billion shares valued at N54.776bn that exchanged hands in the preceding week in 17,792 deals.
The Financial Services Industry measured by volume led the activity’s chart with 1.755 billion shares valued at N11.571bn traded in 8,730 deals, contributing 80.44 per cent and 50.76 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 178.154 million shares worth N8.655bn in 4,457 deals. The third place was occupied by Services Industry with a turnover of 143.821 million shares worth N92,479m in 470 deals.
Trading in the top three equities, Wapic Insurance, Zenith International Bank and United Bank for Africa measured by volume accounted for 973.088 million shares worth N5.854bn in 2,493 deals, contributing 44.59 per cent and 25.68 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Also traded during the week were a total of 127 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N13,837.30 executed in 5 deals; meanwhile, there were no trades recorded last week.
A total of 9,024 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N9.485m were traded this week in 15 deals, compared with a total of 5,950 units valued at N6.247m transacted last week in 2 deals The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 1.80% and 1.84% to close the week at 37,365.91 and N13.009trn, respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher during the week with the exception of the NSE’s Oil/Gas Index, which depreciated by 1.45%, while the NSE’s ASeM Index closed flat.
The equities price advancers table for the week showed that 36 equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 20 of the previous week. Decliners table showed that 24 equities depreciated in price, lower than 43 equities of the previous week, while one 111) equities remained unchanged higher than one hundred and eight (108) equities recorded in the preceding week
