Pelican Stars target Aiteo Cup

Chief Coach of Pelican Stars of Calabar, Agat Egat, has declared the readiness of the club to lift this year’s Women FA Cup also known as Aiteo Cup.
Pelican Stars last Saturday at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos defeated FC Robo by 4-2 penalties after their game ended 2-2 in the Round of 16 of the championship to book a place in the quarter- final stage. Both teams had earlier played a 1-1 draw in Calabar.
Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the tension soaked encounter, he noted that having escaped the Lagos hurdle to book a place in the last eight, his team will fight to the last to ensure they lift the prestigious trophy.
I’m happy that we were able to defeat our opponent in presence of their fans and this victory will give us the necessary confidence to prepare hard against our next opponent because our ultimate ambition is to lift the trophy and add it to other ones we have won in the past,” declared the former Green Eagles star.
On his assessment of the women league, the former Falconet handler commended the Women’s League Board led by Aisha Falode for their great innovations in the league but charged them to do more in the grassroots development of the competition because that is where players graduate to the league.
The Women’s League Board must be commended for doing a good job and people are now coming out to watch the game because it is becoming attractive but there is the need for them to take the issue of developing female football academies serious since that is where teams source for players,” concluded the former Calabar Rovers playmaker.
