UNIBEN scores high in tree planting

The Management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has flagged-off tree planting that would among others check natural disaster and add to the aesthetic value of the institution.
The development is in line with the university’s longstanding commitment to increase students’ interest towards a green environment and meet academic goals.
At the brief ceremony to mark the exercise, Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, assured that the tree planting exercise will be appreciated in future.
He charged other Faculties to emulate the good work of the Faculty of Education.
He said: “It is a welcome development. It will protect our infrastructure from wind and other natural disasters. The timing is appropriate. I pray that God will nurture the trees to grow and serve the purpose.
The Dean, Faculty of Education of the university, Prof. Sunday Iyamu, who inspired the campaign, told the Vice-Chancellor that the tree planting campaign was hinged on the need to enhance the aesthetics of the institution and serve as wind-barrier protection for infrastructure.
While reflecting on traditions of the past and the need for the ivory tower to focus on the future, Iyamu drew the school’s Management attention to the challenges facing students and teachers in the Faculty under his watch.
