Plateau Utd stun Gombe to stay top

Plateau United cruised to a 5-1 win over Gombe United in one of Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixtures. Playing in soggy conditions at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos, Plateau United got their noses in front when Emma James converted from the spot after just six minutes into the match.
Three minutes later Mannir Ubale evened matters from 11 metres out and it looked like a game was in the offing.
But Kennedy Boboye’s men restored their lead on 22 minutes when Elisha Golbe turned in Daniel Itodo’s long throw-in, and before the break Peter Eneji gave Plateau United a two-goal cushion.
The NPFL leaders had to wait until the 79th minute when Kabiru Umar got his name among the goals and with seven minutes to go before the final whistle, substitute Emeka Umeh headed in another long throw-in by Itodo to make it 5-1. Plateau United maintained their five-point lead over second-placed MFM FC, who won 1-0 against 3SC.
