LASG begins demolition of shops, structures under high tension cables

The Lagos state government has demolished over 120 illegal shops and structures constructed under high tension cables in Itedo Lekki phase 1 Lagos, on Saturday.
This is coming after the expiration of a long six-month demolition notice served on both owners and occupiers of structures in the area by the state government.
Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who led the operatives of the Agency in carrying out the demolition exercise, disclosed that owners and occupiers of the over 120 illegal shops and structures under high tension cables were fully compensated.
Speaking on the need for the demolition, Egbeyemi said that “the radiation from the high tension cables poses serious danger to human health and no responsible and responsive government would put any of her citizens lives at risks.
“Some of the demolished illegal shops were even an eye-saw as miscreants freely smoked Indian hemp there. Under aged prostitution was also at its height there.”

While encouraging Lagos residents to embrace the newly introduced ‘rent-to-own’ housing policy scheme of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode government, Egbeyemi emphasised that the scheme had more than 4,355 fully equipped housing unit spread across the State meant to alleviate housing problem of both low/middle income earners and to equally discourage people living at any restricted areas which include under high tension cables
Egbeyemi also urged traders/middle income earners to apply and benefit from the N25 billion Lagos State Empowerment Trust Fund (LSETF) scheme which is out to help residents grow and scale thier micro small/medium enterprises with N500k to N5m soft loan and stop trading at any restricted areas in the state. .
He however urges both owners and occupiers of shops and structures constructed under high tension cables across the State to immediately remove them as the demolition exercise would be extended to other areas soon.
One of the residents of the area who simply identified himself as Dr. Femi Ololade commended the government for saving the lives of both traders and residents living under the high tension cables.
Dr. Ololade who made reference to an incident where several people died and others injured after a high tension cables fell on a viewing centre in south-south zone during a football match, urged citizens to co-operate with the government and stop endangering their lives.
He however commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for a job welldone not only on demolition of illegal structures under high tension but also on all other on-going massive infrastructural development across the State.
