Driver docked for raping neighbour’s 14 year old daughter

For allegedly raping his co-tenant’s 14- year-old daughter, a 20-year-old driver, Lekan Akinyemi, was on Friday docked before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja.
Akinyemi, who resides at Alhaji Oladipupo Street, Oko-oba, Agege, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to charge of rape preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 20 at the accused residence.
Donny said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor, (name upheld).
The complainant said that the accused called her at about 10.00 p.m. to help him buy recharge cards.
Akinyemi told the girl to follow him inside his room to collect the money for the recharge cards.
On entering the room, the accused locked the door and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
“I cried for help but nobody was at home, he used a cloth to cover my mouth and forcefully had carnal knowledge of me.”
She further told the court that she narrated everything that had happened to her mother immediately she got back from work.
“The minor said that her mother quickly took her to a nearby hospital, where she was given medication to flush her system.
“The complainant said that the case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested and taken to the police station for further questioning,” he said.
Donny also told the court that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Davies Abegunde granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Abegunde also said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos state government.
The case was thereafter adjourned till February 27 for mention.
