Community lauds NGO’s initiative on menstruation awareness

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Project Save A Live Today, has been commended by Sogunro Community Ogba, for sensitising young girls on menstruation and menstrual cycle development.
The community’s treasurer and secretary, Elder Ayo, lauded the organisation’s efforts at educating young girls.
He spoke at Ogba, Lagos, at the weekend, noting that the project came at a most crucial period.
According to him, “The children are on holiday and are well rested from the pressure of academic activities, so, this is a good time for them to embrace whatever is being taught, such engagement is very much encouraged.”
The group said it embarked on its first campaign towards increasing the mental and physical wellbeing of young girls that have reached puberty stage.
The event, which brought together, medical personnel, health facilitators, and community volunteers, was themed: ‘How to Handle Menstruation and Menstrual Cycle Development’.
Dr. Mrs. Oluwaseun Afoke, Medical Doctor at LUTH, gave the teeming young ladies tips on health; and in particular assisted them with free gynaecological tests, conducted by medical experts. Speaking on the impact of the event, a young newly married woman, Jessica Aideyan, applauded the foundation for the initiative.
She said, “I had lots of fun, and gained a lot too, I did not know how to calculate my menstrual cycle before now, as I relied on my mobile phone app, to do that, but thanks to this lecture by Dr. Seun, I now know how to calculate my menstrual cycle and watch out for tell-tale signs of abnormality within my body.”
The young ladies also had several mental and physical exercises to keep them in shape.
The event also featured one- on -one counselling sessions with the doctor, medical screenings, games and gifts for the young ladies.
According to the organisers, Project Salt is passionate about saving every young lady that needs help.
They said that, a “meaningful impact in the lives of ladies we can touch is what we are aiming for. This is the very beginning, we are working and planning for a much bigger outreach, we already have a repository of programme outlined for the coming year and we are hopeful that come 2017, this event will take a bigger shape.”
Project Salt is an organisation aimed towards enhancing the value to Africa’s ladies and the girl-child.
