OAU rocks!

… as Passion House, Susty Vibes storm campus with Cleanup Nigeria project
The much anticipated launch of the campus Clean up exercise finally birthed on Saturday, October 22 after Organisers, Passion House and Susty Vibes stormed the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU with the Cleanup Nigeria project.
Being first of its kind through collaboration between Passion House, Sustyvibes and, the postgraduate student body of the famous Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies established in July 1982, ECOMSA, the clean up saw lecturers, students and media gathered, as the team combed through the campus picking waste materials.
The event kicked started at about 8:30 am with a brief welcome address by the anchor and Founder of Green and Reap Initiatives, Simi Adeodun.
Adeodun recognised the conveners, federal organizations, stakeholders, volunteers and participants who converged at the campus students union building.
Next was the registration of participants followed by the Green carpet which gave rooms for interviews and takes from management of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies, ECOMSA, Passion House, SustyVibes and other strong supporting associations and clubs such as ANUNSA (All Nigerian United Nations Students Association), LFCC (Life and Fitness Cycling Club) JCI (Junior Chambers International) OAU Chapter, and MAN ‘O’ War OAU.
Also present were renowned environmental stakeholders, Adesoji Adeyemi-Adejolu a.k.a Mr Waste who is the founder of the Valuable Waste Initiative and brain behind WeAreM.A.D Initiatives, Ms Tony Joy.
Director of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies, OAU Ile-Ife, Prof. Olusegun O. Awotoye was represented by Dr (Mrs) O.T Aladesanmi, a lecturer of Ecotoxicology and Bioremediation who briefly narrated the history of the institute before commenting on the importance of the clean up programme.
She saluted the efforts of Passion House and Sustyvibes for the collaboration with ECOMSA and other supporting organizations.
Other lecturers in attendance were Dr (Mrs) Ige Olusola Adetoro and Mr Femi Oluyede who also described the OAU campus clean up as an event worthy of emulation by other Nigerian Institutions.
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA Osun State chapter also graced the clean up, as they came in a team led by the State Coordinator, Mr Maike Shukwunweizu Muhammad .
In his speech, Mr Maike commended ECOMSA by reaffirming the longevity of the bond between NESREA and ECOMSA. He also appreciated the founders of Passion House and Sustyvibes respectively.
Brain behind the Cleanup Nigeria project, spoke on his antecedents, and reason behind the Clean up project. According to him, his mission is to create a society free of environmental dirt, encouraging every citizen of Nigeria to protect their environments by keeping them clean and green.
Ms Jennifer Uchendu of Sustyvibes also talked about the opportunity her Organisation had to partner with Passion House in keeping Nigeria clean.
ECOMSA Executives led by Wole Adegbule expressed the Body’s love for the clean up while the President of ANUNSA and the coordinator of LFCC Joel Akingunola and Samuel Enoch also expressed their passion for the environment, describing cycling as an environment-friendly activity.
Afterwards, Mr Samuel of LFCC displayed his practical intelligence once again as he coordinated every participant and volunteers on a 15 minutes exercise.
The participants already furnished with nose guards, hand gloves and waste bags, were soon divided into 3 groups.
Group 1 was dispatched to moremi female hall, Adekunle Fajuyi Male Hall and Akintola female hall. The Team was lead by Mr Alex Akhigbe of Passion House.
Group 2 led by Awotunde Idowu of ECOMSA, was dispatched to Obafemi Awolowo male hall.
Group 3 was dispatched to Mozambique female hall, Angola male hall and E.T.F male hall- team was led by EKE EMMANUEL of Man-O-War
At about 11:am, all groups re-converged at the SUB with bags full of dirt.
After washing of hands, the teams were handed refreshment packages as fun picture sessions were ongoing.
At the end of the cleaning exercise, 200kg of wastes were collected and it was concluded that the Great Awo Hostel generated more wastes.
Zibe Slush by Zibe Solutions supported the clean up with snacks while drinks and cakes were provided by House of Priscilla.
