$30b loan: Buhari not out for personal agrandizement – Group

The Progressives Legacy Forum (PLF) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that plans by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to access a foreign loan of $30 billion was to urgently develop the country in accordance with his campaingn promises and not for personal aggrandizement.

The forum, however, appealed to Senate to have a rethink of their action so as to enable the present administration to bring the much needed dividends of democracy.

The national coordinator of the forum, Alhaji Aruna Zago said this while addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja after the foorum’s second meeting, just as it added that it is obvious that current administration had embark on massive construction of roads across the country “which are commendable.”

While commenting on the foreign loan, Alhaji Zago said: “bout the foreign loan the federal government is planning to borrow, we are sure that this government is willing to spend this money judiciously on the welfare if the people and the development of the nation. This government is not planning to use the money to buy cows or houses. We are appealing to Senate to look at it critically and support the federal government.

“We commend government on the recent intervention on the following roads in the Nigeria; Enugu-Onitsha Express Road, Maiduguri-Kano Express Way, Owerri–Mbaise Umuahia, Lagos–Ibadan-Ilorin federal highways. Just to mention but a few.”

The forum, however, urged the federal government not to relent on her efforts to explore agriculture, procurement and distribution of fertilizer, Solid minerals deposit; exploration and exploitation for revenue generation and creation of employment.

On economy, the pro-Buhari group suggested “ban on certain categories of items and encourage locally Nigerian made goods as unchecked importations drains the scare foreign exchange, thereby putting serious strain on the economy.

“We thereby encourage Nigerians to understand the present situation in the county and rally round the government of President Mohammadu Buhari so that we can move the country forward knowing that change begins with you.”
