How 25-old barber murdered a football fan over Chelsea loss- Witness

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja was on Tuesday informed by a police witness, ASP. Fatai Popoola, how a defendant, Yemi Badmus, allegedly murdered one Saheed Badmus with a broken bottle at a football viewing center in Lagos.
The witness narrated before the court presided over by Justice Kudirat Jose how Yemi Badmus killed Saheed Badmus on April 30, 2014 after a fight ensued between him and the deceased while watching football match.
The 25-years old defendant, Yemi Badmus was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder, an offence contrary to Sec.221 of the Lagos criminal law
According to the charge, he was said to have allegedly committed the crime at 48, Lamina Street, Egbe, Lagos at about 8:30pm.
The police also told the court that the defendant murdered the deceased after an argument ensued at a football viewing center after the Chelsea and Athlentic-Madrid match.
Giving his evidence, Popoola, who has served in the CID homicide section for over three decades, further informed the court that defendant confessed to have murdered the deceased and this was also documented in a statement signed by him.
“The case was transferred to my department at the homicide division in Yaba from Ikotun Police station for further investigation. Pictures of the deceased taken at the scene of the crime as well as the file of the matter was also transferred to my department.
“My investigating team took up the matter and we immediately visited the crime scene but there was no visible evidence at the scene because it was an open space and it has already been cleared.
“We however interviewed people around the crime scene including a woman selling soft-drink, from whom the defendant got the bottle he used to kill the deceased”, Popoola said.
While being cross-examined by the defence counsel, Mrs. Olamide, the witness maintained that his team visited the crime scene but could not get any evidence because it has already been cleared due to the fact that they visited the scene days after the incident.
Justice Kudirat Jose however, adjourned the matter till February 28, 2017 for continuation of trial.
