2020 Easter celebration historic in Plateau – CAN

2020 Easter celebration in Plateau State will remain historic to Christians, says the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in Jos North, Rev. Canon Nenman Gowon.

Gowon stated this on Friday in Jos, amidst the seven days lockdown declared by Governor Lalong, to fumigate the State against the deadly scourge of the COVID-19.

The lockdown which started on a Good Friday being a day Christians all over the world sets aside to mark the victory of the death of Christ over evil, will remain a bitter tale in the minds of Christians as they remain indoors to worship, our correspondent reports.
However the CAN Chairman said: “this is rather very strange for us as Christians, that Easter which is one of our most cardinal service and time for worship to celebrate the victory of the death of Christ and victory over evil is being truncated by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“This is historic and will remain in the history of governance and the Church in Plateau. Even in the military regime, when issues arise, the Church is given the opportunity to worship.
“It’s a difficult time for us all and will certainly not be easy for the Church, but we pray that God will have mercy on us and heal the land.
Gowon however called on Christians to obey constituted authorities and stay at home as the government has declared.
The CAN Chairman who also doubles as one of the monitoring evaluation member appointed to monitor the level of compliance of the lockdown order by government, also observed that while Christians are obeying the law, Fulani herdsmen are busy rearing their cattle, wondering if herdsmen are not suppose to be part of the lockdown.
Gowon call on government to as a matter of urgency look into the matter with all seriousness.
