2019: Obasanjo men plot to take over Lagos State chapter – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his men of plotting to hijack the party in Lagos State in what it described as ‘abuse of trust, integrity and ant party activities.
A press statement signed by the party’s caretaker committee Chairman, Kayode Jacobs, said: “In a swift move to reposition ADC and latch on the crisis rocking the party in Lagos State, the National Working Committee of the party has dissolved the Lagos State Executive Committee”.
It was indicated that the NWC was inundated with reports from different quarters on how the sacked Executive was working hand in hand with another political party, turned back ‘serious’ prospective aspirants to allow candidates of their secret political party run freely in the 2019 general elections.
The statement reads: “Matters got worse when the State Secretary suddenly resigned at the commencement of nomination of candidates and pulled along members and candidates to another party.
The State Chairman was accused of complicity but before anything, he declared he was heading abroad for medical checkup. The party was therefore left empty and got into gubernatorial dilemma in the last hours before official close of governorship nominations.
“Aggrieved members signed petitions and promised to storm the National Secretariat if the needful was not done by the NWC which prompted the dissolution of the State Executive and appointment of a Caretaker Committee headed by Pastor Kayode Jacobs,
a Lagos State indigene and former gubernatorial candidate who was part of the strategy team during the annulled June 12 Primaries and a leading member of the Obasanjo Leadership Forum (OLF) in the early part of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s democratic regime”.
According to the statement, Pastor Jacobs is to be assisted by a 14-man team comprising of a former gubernatorial candidates, Local Government Council chairmen among other men and women of high prominence.
The Committee which was sworn-in on Monday was mandated to sanitise the nomination process and ensure the party’s total victory in the 2019 general polls.
Speaking at the ceremony, the new Caretaker Chairman, Pastor Kayode, urged all party men and women to continue in the spirit of the party, symbolised by handshake logo, adding that “our assignment is simply to recover the party, reunite its members and use the platform to democratically liberate Lagos State”.
