The suspicious neighbour (name withheld) was said to have informed other neighbours of the unusual and regular visits of Destiny Eghosa Asemota as the only male visitor to Ezekiel Obinna apartment, hence a secret plot to catch them in the act was secretly organized.

As tension further heightened over desecration of the community, more angry youths were seen racing down with petrol and tyres to set the 2 gay suspects ablaze when suddenly a clergyman from the community emerged from nowhere and appealed to the angry mob to have mercy on the 2 gay suspects .

Rev.Philip as he was fondly called was said to have appealed to the mob to hand over the 2 gay suspects to him with a view to handing them over to the police rather than having them killed by taking the laws into their own hands .

Fully convinced that the two gay suspects would be handed over to the police for prosecution, the youth leader in the community, Amadasun Joel was said to have ordered the angry mob to release the 2 gay suspects to Rev. Philip .

Rev.Phillip was said to have taken the 2 gay suspects to a nearby clinic for urgent medical attention as they bled profusely from injuries sustained during the mob attack .

Meanwhile, the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City stated that it received a disturbing report of the arrest of 2 gay suspects who were rescued from being lynched to death in a remote community by a popular clergyman identified as Rev. Phillip but were yet to be handed over to the police.

The Police, according to the statement, advised Rev.Philip to immediately turn in the 2 gay suspects for immediate arrest and prosecution within the next 48 hours in the Interest of peace in the community adding that youths in the community were later informed that he provided both gay suspects a rare opportunity for escape from prosecution.
