Applicant killed, many injured as hoodlums attack APC campaign train in Kwara

An applicant, and holder of the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme, Samson Adeosun has been reportedly killed on Tuesday night in an attack on the campaign train of Mr Lola Ashiru, the Kwara South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The attack occurred in Ojoku, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara, which is the home town of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the same election, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim. The Lola Ashiru campaign council blamed the attack on thugs of the PDP. Addressing the press in Offa on Wednesday, Mr Femi Whyte, Director-General of the council said that the perpetrators laid siege at the entrance of the palace of Olojoku of Ojoku, Alhaji Yekeen Afolabi and rained stones and gunshots at the entourage while leaving after a homage on the monarch. According to him, many were injured by the gunshots, while one person, Samson Adeosun has been confirmed dead on reaching general hospital, Offa. “Five persons are in critical state, while three persons reported to be missing have been found, but not in a stable condition probably due to the psychological effect of the attack. “Vehicles in our convoy were also destroyed. The back-screen of a sienna car was shot, the front screen of the hoodlums. “It is imperative for the general public to know that as at the time of the barbaric event, Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim was at Awrab Suites in Offa, which is 15 kilometres away to Ojoku”, Whyte said. The campaign DG alleged a source confirmed to them that two Hilux vehicles with the alleged attackers came into Ojoku around 4pm and were lodged in a storey building adjacent the palace by the PDP women leader in Ojoku ward He described the Ojoku attack as another desperate attempt after that of Agbaji and Ode Alfa Nda in Ilorin where two people were killed with several properties destroyed. Daily Times, reports that journalists were later conducted round the damaged vehicles and the victims at Offa General Hospital. In his reaction, Mallam Ibrahim Bolajoko, the PDP ward chairman in Ojoku denied the claims of the APC campaign council. Bolajoko alleged that it was APC thugs that attacked their supporters seated in front of the palace when they came to the town for campaign. According to him, seven of their members, who were shot, and are currently receiving treatment from a native doctor in Erinle. He, however, showed the media one of the victims, Kamaru Amao, who sighted with bondage and plaster.
